Concepts for Peaceful
Conflict Management

Human beings can fly to the moon and decipher genetic codes, but the non-violent resolution of conflicts remains as difficult a task as ever. In conflict situations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have taken on an increasingly important role through the implementation of projects oriented toward the de-escalation of violence, reconciliation, and the guidance and support of affected individuals, groups, and communities.

As a rule, international NGO projects that promote civil conflict resolution and crisis prevention are planned and administered outside of the actual crisis regions themselves. NGO staff members must therefore acquire additional, conflict-sensitive expertise in order to develop effective concepts, to make sound decisions with far-reaching consequences, and to manage projects in a responsible manner. The ultimate goal is the creation and implementation of meaningful and effective measures to de-escalate violence and promote peace.
